What is the primary purpose of the new veterinary center?
The primary purpose of Placer SPCA’s new veterinary center is to care for the nearly 4,000 shelter animals that arrive each year. This includes providing medical treatment for animals who are sick, injured, recovering from surgery, or need specialized care to become healthy and adoptable.
At the same time, the veterinary center expands access to veterinary services for Placer County residents through subsidized spay and neuter services, vaccinations, microchipping, preventative wellness care, and other support designed to help families keep their pets healthy and at home.
Does the Placer SPCA offer veterinary services for the community?
Yes! The Placer SPCA’s Community Clinic is committed to providing accessible veterinary care for pets in our community. Services are available to residents of Placer County, and proof of residency will be requested at the time of service.
Services available to Placer County residents include low-cost spay and neuter, vaccination, and microchipping assistance, preventative wellness exams, and dental care.

Does the Placer SPCA offer financial assistance for pet owners in need?
Yes! Thanks to the generous support of our donors, the Placer SPCA offers subsidized spay and neuter services, vaccinations, microchipping, preventative wellness care, and other support designed to help Placer County families keep their pets healthy and at home.
Individuals currently receiving public assistance, experiencing financial hardship, or living on a fixed or limited income qualify for further reduced-cost services. Examples may include, but are not limited to, participation in programs such as CalFresh (SNAP), Medi-Cal, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability (SSDI), unemployment benefits, or other local or federal assistance programs.
Additional financial assistance is available to support access to care for Placer County pet owners in need. If you believe you may qualify, we encourage you to speak with our team. All inquiries are handled with respect, confidentiality, and a shared goal of supporting both people and their pets.

Does the Placer SPCA offer language support and accessibility?
Yes! The Placer SPCA welcomes all members of our community and are committed to making our services as accessible as possible. If English is not your first language, we are here to help.
Members of our team are available to assist clients in Spanish and Chinese, and we will do our best to support communication needs whenever possible.

Does the Placer SPCA offer spay/neuter services for “community cats?”
Yes! We support Trap, Neuter & Return (TNR) and provide subsidized services to colony caregivers. Spay/neuter services for feral cats include spay/neuter, ear tipping, core vaccinations, FeLV/FIV test, and a microchip. Our wish is to work closely with TNR caregivers to assist in population management of their colonies. These cats are presumed to be feral or semi-feral living outdoors.
In most cases, cats that are found to be social, friendly, and comfortable with human interaction will be referred to our Intake Center so we may assist and provide the cat an opportunity for placement into a permanent home with an adopter.
Can I purchase heartworm and/or flea and tick prevention products at the Placer SPCA Community Clinic?
Yes! Heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention products are available for purchase through the Placer SPCA Community Clinic; however, a veterinary exam at the clinic is required before medications can be prescribed or dispensed. To ensure your pet’s health and maintain an active veterinarian-client-patient relationship, annual exams at the Placer SPCA Community Clinic are required for all prescription refills.
