Rehoming Assistance
If you need to find a new home for your pet on your own, there are resources that can help make the process safer and more successful. The Placer SPCA may be able to provide guidance, including referrals to breed-specific rescues or other rescue organizations that fit your pet’s needs. Online rehoming platforms such as Adopt-a-Pet can also help connect pets with potential adopters.
When rehoming a pet, consider these tips:
- Be honest about your pet’s personality, behavior, and medical needs.
- Ask potential adopters questions about their home, schedule, and experience with pets.
- Request veterinary references when possible.
- Charge a small adoption fee to help discourage unsafe placements.
- Share veterinary records, routines, and favorite foods or toys to help ease the transition.
- Taking time to carefully screen adopters can help your pet find a safe, stable, and loving new home.
Surrendering Your Animal
If you are a Placer County resident, and need to surrender your pet, please contact guestservices@placerspca.org or call 916-782-7722 to ensure we have space available. Owner surrenders are by appointment only and take place at our Intake Center (150 Corporation Yard Rd., Roseville, CA), Tuesday through Sunday, 11 am to 4 pm. Please note, the Placer SPCA is only able to accept owner surrenders from Placer County residents (proof of residency will be required prior to intake). Additionally, there are fees associated with surrendering your animal.
Once you have a confirmed appointment, you will be asked to complete the appropriate form linked below to help us find the best possible new home for your animal. All animals that come to the Placer SPCA will undergo health and behavior assessments prior to being placed up for adoption.
