Thoughtful Giving Starts Here.

Tax-smart giving options can help you create lasting impact for pets in need.

Whether you’re planning a gift today or looking ahead to the future, there are simple ways to support the Placer SPCA while enjoying tax benefits.

Donor-Advised Funds

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) are charitable giving accounts that people establish through a sponsoring organization such as a community foundation, a public charity, or a financial services company. Many sponsors require a minimum contribution to open a fund, often between $5,000 and $25,000. If you are interested in starting a DAF, we suggest you consult with your professional financial advisor for guidance.

DAFs can be funded with cash or appreciated assets such as stocks or mutual funds. In many cases, donors receive an immediate charitable tax deduction for their contribution if they itemize deductions. You may contribute to your DAF as often as you like (dependent on financial institution), receive immediate tax benefits and recommend grants from your fund to the Placer SPCA.

You may also choose to name the Placer SPCA as a beneficiary of your fund so that remaining assets can support the animals and programs you care about in the future.

You can make an immediate gift to Placer SPCA by recommending a gift from your DAF today.  Tax ID# 94-2607682.

To grant Placer SPCA a gift from your DAF as part of your estate, use our tax ID and let us know so we can welcome you into our Circle of Hope legacy society.

IRA Charitable Gifts

Are you looking for a way to save lives and have an IRA that you would like to use for charitable giving? If you are 70 ½, you can make tax-free charitable donations directly from your IRA to a qualified charity like the Placer SPCA. By making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), you can benefit the Placer SPCA while reducing your taxable income. These gifts are also known as “IRA charitable rollovers.”

IRA charitable rollover gifts (QCDs) do not qualify for a charitable deduction. However, in tax year 2026, you can exclude up to $111,000 of QCDs from your gross income each year. If you file a joint return, and your spouse is 70 ½ or older, you can each donate up to your individual annual limit from your own IRA.

Beginning in the year you turn 73, QCDs count towards satisfying any required minimum distributions (RMDs), that you would otherwise have to receive from your IRA according to IRS rules. In addition to a generous gift to the Placer SPCA, you may benefit by reducing your overall taxable income or potentially reducing the income-related surcharge on Medicare premiums. (NOTE: The RMD age remains 73 for those born 1951–1959, and rises to 75 in 2033 for those born 1960 or later).

How an IRA charitable rollover works:

  • Contact your IRA administrator and request a distribution directly from your IRA to the Placer SPCA.
  • Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to the Placer SPCA to help us continue our life-saving work. If we are notified, we will send a letter acknowledging your gift as a qualified charitable distribution.
  • This popular gift has many benefits to you and the Placer SPCA.

Appreciated Stocks

Donating appreciated stock held for over a year may allow you to avoid capital gains and receive a charitable deduction based on its market value, making a bigger impact than a cash gift.  If you plan to donate stock, please notify us so we can provide the transfer instructions.
