Beneficiary Gifts

Beneficiary Designation

A gift for the future

To include Placer SPCA in your plans, please use our legal name and federal tax ID.
Name:  Placer County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Tax ID#: 94-2607682
An easy way to make a future gift to help companion animals is to designate Placer SPCA as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, life insurance policy, or Donor Advised Fund.

Consider reviewing your beneficiary forms for your IRA, 401(k), Tax Deferred Annuity or 403(b) plan or contact your bank, broker, or plan administrator to obtain the correct form to include Placer SPCA in your charitable plan.

When you designate a beneficiary gift to Placer SPCA, you are eligible to become part of our Circle of Hope legacy society with special benefits and privileges.

Note: Please let us know of your gift because many retirement plan administrators assume no responsibility for letting the charity know of your designation. We would love to discuss your philanthropic goals and ensure that they are honored. Also please keep a copy of your forms with your important papers.

IRA Charitable Donation

A gift for now

Are you looking for a way to save lives and have an IRA that you would like to use for charitable giving? If you are 70 ½, you can make tax-free charitable donations directly from your IRA to a qualified charity like the Placer SPCA. By making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), you can benefit Placer SPCA while reducing your taxable income. These gifts are also known as “IRA charitable rollovers”.

IRA charitable rollover gifts (QCD’s) do not qualify for a charitable deduction. However in tax year 2024, you can exclude up to $105,000 of QCD’s from your gross income each year. If you file a joint return, and your spouse is 70 ½ or older, they can also give an additional $105,000 from an IRA, for a total of up to $210,000.

Beginning in the year you turn 73, QCD’s count towards satisfying any required minimum distributions (RMD’s), that you would otherwise have to receive from your IRA according to IRS rules. In addition to a generous gift to Placer SPCA, you may benefit by reducing your overall taxable income by more than your donation or reducing “Income Penalties” on Medicare Premiums.

How an IRA charitable rollover works
1 – Contact your IRA administer and request a distribution directly from your IRA to Placer SPCA.
2 – Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to the Placer SPCA to help us continue our life saving work. If we are notified, we will send a letter acknowledging your gift as a qualified charitable distribution.
3–This popular gift has many benefits to you and Placer SPCA.

We always suggest you seek advice from a legal or financial advisor.

Age 59½ and over: Traditional IRA withdrawals with no restrictions

Starting at age 59 ½, you can take a distribution from your IRA account or Tax Deferred Annuity without penalty and then make a gift to Placer SPCA. This gift might qualify for a charitable deduction if you itemize your deductions.
